Once you have a signed contract with a roofing contractor, what should you be expecting next? Here is a guide for what you should expect during your roof replacement and how you can prepare for this day.
Once you have a signed contract, your roof replacement project is going to be put in the hands of the production manager. The production manager will likely look over the job so they can see exactly what has been contracted for this job. The production manager will look through all the documents for the job to make sure the roofing company has everything necessary in order for the project to be successful.
Once the production manager has everything they need, they will get the roof replacement scheduled. They will send a material list over to the supplier and give them a drop date for the materials. They will most likely have the materials dropped the day before the build date, or the morning of the build date. Depending on the time of the year, the production manager should be able to get the roof scheduled anywhere from 1-3 weeks from signing a build contract. After the material list is sent over to the supplier, the production manager will then send a roof work order to the crew. The work order will have the build date, the material list, and all the build instructions for the job. The production manager will then call the homeowner to let them know what day the roof replacement is scheduled to take place and will go over with the homeowner what they can expect during the roof replacement.
When the day of your roof replacement arrives, you should expect the crew to arrive early in the morning. In the dog days of summer, the roofing crews are usually showing up around 6:45 am. The crew will bring a dump trailer with them and likely park this in the driveway. This is where they will be throwing away the shingles they tear off your roof. The roofing crews will have tarps on the ground and likely hanging over the side of the house to protect your siding and landscaping from being damaged during tear-off. Once they have your old roof tore off, they will begin installing your new roof. Depending on how big your roof is, the roof replacement will likely take 1-2 days.
Once the crew has the new roof put on, they will pick up any material laying around the yard and driveway. They will also run magnet rollers all over the driveway, yard, and garden areas to ensure that all nails are picked up. They will then take the dump trailer and be on their way!
